Have any of you heard or had a baby that has a consistant cough? Mine wakes up in the middle of the night and coughs sometimes for 3 hours at a time. I have been to the dr several times and they have scheduled several tests within the last month. They think it's reflux, I think it's asthma, I have a history of asthma in my family...tried formula change, previcide, Axid, and he is on a inhaler. Also tried a humidifier and elivated his bed nothing has worked...what do ya'll think

My son went through a similar thing. His cough would sometimes lead to choking spells where he would actually stop breathing. My doctor also stated that this was reflux and that he should grow out of it. Sure enough by 8 months the choking and coughing for the most part stopped.
That being said, you know your child better than anyone. They will only do the testing if you insist and insist. Stick with your instincts no matter what others may say - more often than not you will be right!
Good luck!

Hello, My 3 year has had reflux disease since he was 2 weeks old and still has it plus asthma and allergys. With Gerd your child will be throwing up constantly after drinking any kind of liquid or baby food. The doctors tell you to elevate there head but it really doesn't work. It is only good for keeping there head up to reduce the risk of choking on there puke. THere is a test that they can do on your child to determine if that is what your child has by making him/her drink this stuff and then doing a doplar or xray on them. I would seriouly have your doctor put you child on a machine called an apnia monitor. so that way you will know if your child if having a hard time breathing and it will alarm you. My doctor has my son on albuteral and flovent. the flovent inhaler if used everyday to help the asthma and the albuteral is for asthma attach. do your child wheeze at all. If your would like to talk please email me at star19825812@yahoo.com or instant message me at star19825812 i wish you the best of luck

I would agree with the person who said remove allergens and use Vicks. I had two babies who suffered persistent croup, and one with mild asthma, and Vicks + getting rid of carpets made an enormous difference. Coughing at night can be a classic symptom of asthma, and you can do an awful lot to reduce symptoms by manipulating the environment, so that you can stay away from dependence on preventive inhalers etc. because they do have long term side effects.

I think its probably asthma too. Make sure you vacuum his room and anywhere he lies very well to keep down dust mites which are a prime source of asthma. My eldest son used to have this and they called it croup and a doctor told me they dont call it asthma until a child is 2 or more. Why I have no clue but I do know that a night cough is one of the signs of asthma.

I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH MY SON WHEN HE WAS 3MTHS OLD, IN THE END HE WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A CHEST INFECTION, GIVING MEDICATION USED IT UP AS DESCRIBED BUT BECAUSE HE HAD IT FOR A WHILE HE WASN'T OVER IT 100% SO 2 AND A BIT WEEKS LATER HE GOT IT AGAIN. WHEN HE WAS JUST OVER A YEAR HE HAD A REALLY BAD COUGH THAT WOULDN`T GO AND LIKE YOU I TRIED EVERY THING HE HAD TEST`S I WAS TOLD HE HAD THIS PROBLEM AND THAT PROBLEM JUST FELT LIKE HE WAS BEING USED HAS A HUMAN GUINEA PIG, TOOK HIM TO ANOTHER DOCTOR WHO SUGGESTED TRYING HIM ON A BLUE INHALER, WHICH HELPED HIM. KEPT HIM ON THE INHALER WAS TOLD IT WAS CHILD HOOD ASTHMA AND HE WOULD GROW OUT OF IT BY THE AGE OF 2-3. WELL HE IS NOW AGED 4 AND IS ON A BLUE, BROWN AND GREEN (GREEN BEING VERY STRONG FOR HIS AGE).
GET A SECOND OPINION AND GET IT SEEN TO BEFORE ITS TO LATE. DONT SMOKE AROUND HIM OR LET ANYONE ELSE SMOKE AROUND HIM, KEEP THE HOUSE AS TIDY AS POSSIBLE.MY SON`S ASTHMA NURSE GAVE ME SOME GOOD ADVICE, AND SAID SET THE HEATING ONTO 21 DEGREES AS DURING THE NIGHT IT GETS REALLY COLD SO WITH THE HEATING ON A STEADY TEMP IT SHOULD KEEP HIS ROOM AT A STEADY HEAT NOT TO HOT OR TO COLD. IT HELPED MY SON! IT SOUNDS LIKE IT IS ASTHMA GOOD LUCK IN GETTING IT SORTED

Get rid of carpet around the baby, get rid of stuffed animals,
Rub baby cherry vicks on the babys chest and warm the blanket over child.
Dont let the baby cough so long. Rub vicks on it fast chest and back.
Get rid of animals around baby too. Anything that triggers a cough. Try feeding soft bananas to the baby, natural cough medicine

All good advice - definitely need to try different doctors and perhaps consider croup.
My daughter only had this during colds and an oil burner with eucalyptus oil in the water was very effective.

I think it is an alergy - the question is, alergy to what? could be dust/ animals, flowers (if you have them around). Definitely something not quite right. I'd go to the A & E, then they'll investigate. Otherwise you'll wait on NHS forever. If it is something more serious it needs investigating now.

Asthma is sometimes induced by stress. To much impressions especially negative (which capture awareness) through the daytime.
