If the characteristics of any force ( e.g. electricity) or energy is known scientifically, then one can say with accuracy that force will take the least resistant path.

In nature, too, such characteristics are happening all the time and all around. A case on hand is the annual migration of Serengetti annual migration of african zebras and other wildlife. They would know , intuitively, that the path of least resistance is the crossing of the crocodile infested river even if it meant losing a number of its herd. The other long paths will have other impediments of different nature.

summing up, the path of least resistance is the FINAL chosen route to attain any given goal, with least amount of risk . The choice of such a path is made by a combination of knowledge, intuition, past experience and memory recall.

When you are talking about people, the "path of least resistance" generally refers to the lazy way. Usually the lazy way isn't the best in the long run. So, based on that, I usually don't agree with it, but it has to be a case-by-case basis.

It is letting nature take its course with out help or hinderance.
just go with the flow and follow along with the stream.

for the most part this works until you hit the rought white water rapids that carry you willy nilly over the waterfall.

so I agree with it up to a point. the boundry line between a safe activity and asking for trouble. at which point its time to get out onto the rocky road and carry your own burdens until reaching that quiescent spot down stream where again you just float with the flow.
