It's not a good idea to cover an AC unit when it is running. The metal fins on the sides need good air circulation or the unit will not cool you house.

Better to build a awning roof over the condenser unit to keep weather out--nothing to "stick" or go wrong.Give it plenty of headroom for free flow of air.
