Does fate pays a part in our lives? According to greek drama, it does. Have you heard of Oedipus Rex? The oracle at Delphi predicted to his pregnant mother, the Queen, that she would give birth to a son who would kill his father the King, and marry his mother. Horrified, she had servants take her newborn child to a mountain top, and pin his feet together so that there was no room for escape. Wild animals or starvation was to take care of the child. Taking pity on the baby, the servant chose to rescue the infant from certain death, and raise him. As a grown man, Oedipus unknowlingly returned to his home, and en route encountered a man with whom he fell into a violent argument. He killed him, and continued towards the city. There, he met the Queen and well, you guessed it, he married her. Some time later, the royal couple learned of their true identities... The tragedy was to show that fate could not be out-maneuvered. The theme of fate is also intertwined in Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet", a story of ill-fated lovers. This link leads to a synopsis:

Wikipedia defines Kismet:

Kismet
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Look up kismet in Wiktionary, the free dictionary.Kismet (Turkish, Urdu as well as Hindi and Arabic, "fate"--derived from the Arabic term qisma; modified in Persian as qismat and then from Turkish it came to English usage) can refer to several things:

Kismet (principle), the magnetic attractive force that actualizes the playing out of karma; often used in the positive sense

The play/musical, "Kismet" sang of fated lovers who met and fell in love, thanks to the invisible hand of serendipity. For a synopsis of the play, follow this link:

Real Life is also filled with irony, serendipity, and "kismet". There were those who never arrived at work on time due to minor incidents, on the morning of September 11.

And I am sure if you put your mind to it, you will discover some people in your own life who, through strange twists and turns of events, have stumbled upon fortune - both fair and foul...

Good luck with your homework :P

Nothing RULES my life. If you believe in a power greater than yourself, I do, and for me that higher power is God. The God that I am aware of has given my soul the freedom to live life the way i choose to live it. Each and every choice, decision and action I take has various consequences. We are a "sum" of our collective experiences. I dont think there is a day destined, solely, for a person to leave this realm. I think there are a number of days in each lifetime that COULD be a meeting with fate, but unconsciously we go about our life and perhaps just miraculously, avoid an accident by taking a later, or earlier flight, or take a sick day from work on the very day the office collapses into an inferno. I believe every thought we process has an effect. Maybe when a person dies tragically and suddenly, he wasnt listening to his inner voice warning or alerting him of the danger that he was heading. I dont think my God would give me FREE WILL all during my life just to call me back, on a predestined date. If you mean fate in meeting certain people that you share some kind of psychic connection from the past or future, or knowing immediately that the person you just met will be your partner in life, yes, i do believe certain people are put in our path because of fate. Life is surely mysterious as it' s uncertain and predictable!
