Dear Dark:

The word Lucid:–adjective 1. easily understood; completely intelligible or comprehensible: a lucid explanation.
2. characterized by clear perception or understanding; rational or sane: a lucid moment in his madness.
3. shining or bright.
4. clear; pellucid; transparent.

The word Dreaming:
1. a succession of images, thoughts, or emotions passing through the mind during sleep.

Why would you want too? Why not train your mind for more lucid daytime thinking? That will pay a better dividend.

Yes, you can. Lucid dreaming can be very interesting and fun if you train youself correctly. "The two essentials to learning lucid dreaming are motivation and effort. Although most people report occasional spontaneous lucid dreams, they rarely occur without our intending it. Lucid dream induction techniques help focus intention and prepare a critical mind. They range from millennium-old Tibetan exercises to modern methods developed by dream researchers. Try the following techniques and feel free to use personal variants. Experiment, observe, and persevere - lucid dreaming is easier than you may think."

On the topic of dreams and lucid dreaming, I would suggest you watch a cool movie called "Waking Life". It has some interesting thoughts on dreams in general.

I agree with Justin's post-pretty good movie as well. There are several methods or techniques that help people have lucid dreams. I only use the MILD, WILD and WBTB methods (you'll become familiar with these if not already). Keeping a record of my dreams and doing reality checks have helped me lucid dream more often.

Get into the habit of writing down your dreams as soon as you wake up. Eventually you will remember your dreams better. You might already have the dreams that you want, you just don't remember them well enough.

Side effect: you'll learn to wake up in the middle of the night to write your dream down.

I used to be able to "sort of" control my dreams, I don't really remember the details but I do remember in my dreams telling the other person or people "Hey I'm dreaming - you can't do anything to me!". Or something to that effect. I think I was partially awake when I was able to do this. I think I talked my way out of a nightmare once. Now that's a handy skill to have!

Wake up early, I read somewhere that if you wake up during or right after a dream you'll remember it. Though this may not be the most ideal answer. LOL!

Think real hard about what you want to dream about before bed, then when you wake up write your dream down.
