Steps:
1. Understand that every girl is different. This is NOT a "one-size-fits-all" guide. This does however, give a good starting point for any relationship.
2. Understand them! If you can do that, forget about reading this. You already got it made.
3. Do nice, unexpected things for her. Do things that will make her happy.
4. If she is agitated or PMSing, be nice to her, and don't get ticked off. Remember, she is not actually mad at you, or annoyed at you. She is just going through a hard time. Just let it roll off of you, like water off a duck.
5. Take her places she's never been. Don't take her to the movies, take her to the amusement park.
6. Be honest. While being honest to your mate is very important, to the point of being paramount, it is equally important that you be honest to yourself. And, yes, in a mature relationship, honesty is the best policy.
7. Start by understanding, or at least make your best effort, that women and men are given fundamentally different roles in society, and thus often are influenced by those roles. Women are perceived as less sex-oriented. This may or may not hold true for your girl, depending on her personality. She should not be sexually available for you whenever you want her to, the same way you don't have to be available for her whenever she wants you to. Discuss the topic openly and maturely with your mate.
8. Remember that women are often led to be much more emotionally oriented than men. This means that many times you might be exasperated by what you perceive to be great emotional fluctuations in your mate. However, remember that unless your mate suffers from physical ailments that affect her mood, the mood swings that appear to be random for you, may very well have very significant reasons that you're just unaware of. After all, your partner is an entire person, with a lifetime of experiences, associations and memories, and not just an empty vessel to play with.
9. Be consistent and communicate with your partner. People often find it exasperating when they get the feeling their partner treats them as an inferior in a relationship. Women are no exception. A lot of women have been taught that the only way to get attention when their partner is trying to ignore them is to act more emotional and be louder until the partner finally surrenders and pays attention to her, even if in annoyance.
10. Call her regularly, make time for her, kiss and hug her, grab her hand to hold it, and don't shut her out. If people feel they're being given the cold treatment by people who are supposed to be important to them, they get worried. Especially as it distanciates them from you without giving an explenation for why this disturbance has occurred. People aren't mind readers, your girl is not likely to be able to guess that you're cranky just because she wouldn't let you do something that she felt was very trivial, while as you found it important.
11. Communicate regularly. Do not talk her ear off, however make sure that if you have any problems that will affect your mood, she is made aware of the reasons for your problems and mood, so that you do not appear to merely be a fickle and cranky creature.
12. Don't whine in excess. This applies both to you and your girl. Whine, and then either try to do something about it, and ask her if she has any productive ideas that may help you, or stop whining completely.
13. Tease her. Teasing builds tension which drives girls crazy - for you!
Some girls (and guys) find teasing unpleasant. 14. Be sure you know which your girlfriend likes before teasing her.
15. Don't forget: it's better to give than to receive. The major religions got this right, and for a good reason: mysteriously, you gain more in the long run by giving than by getting. While love isn't all you need, it's the most important thing.
Tips:
*Keep in mind: the road will be difficult. As in any healthy relationship, you will have your share of conflicts, some tiny, some big. Remember to be true to yourself, and try to abandon any significant selfishness. A relationship is a matter of team work.
*Call her a few times a week, make time for her, have your own life as well though, show affection, support her and be there for her, trust her, always be honest with her, don't hide anything from her, communicate with her, share your secrets and deepest hopes, dreams, fantasies, insecurities, fears, happinesses, (etc).
