I personally like what the guy has to say....but, sad to say, im not sure if America is ready for a black president. I mean, the baby-boomers and THEIR kids are bascially the biggest population of this country, and most of them are conservatives that grew up in the 60s

They used to be so liberal too....I love him -- I would vote for him in a heartbeat, he has the heart and charisma of the kind of politician our fore-fathers were. He is intelligent and qualified without all the baggage that long-career politicians have. I would hope that our country has come to the point where a politician was elected because they were the best candidate for the job, not because they had a better skin tone.
P.S. I live in Texas
*He has seven years state legislative experience, as well as the 2 in the U.S.congress, before that he taught constitutional law... all together close to 15 years...I think that qualifies as experience...he probably knows more than most other senators about what pieces of legislation are constitutional or not.

I respect this man's intellect. He could bring some class, and respect back to the title of the Presidency. I am not one to look at the color of a person's skin when making a decision if they are right for a position. Why can't more people look beyond the color issue? This is not the 50's anymore.
I have heard him say he will complete his term in office before thinking of running for the Presidency. I would like to see him run. I'd vote for him. We need more just like him to lead this country.

I am a baby-boomer & I think he's great, but I agree with you that most of the US is not ready for a black man nor a woman as president. A lot of us baby-boomers are ex-hippies who were against the war in Vietnam (see any parallels?) women's rights, black's rights.....any injustice we saw. You could hardly call us conservatives.

You libs seem to forget that we've already had a black President... Bill Clinton .

Think I'm joking? Toni Morrison, a Nobel Prize winner (in literature) said so...and she herself is black, so she should know.

From:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toni_Morrison

"Morrison caused a stir when she called Bill Clinton "the first Black president;" saying "Clinton displays almost every trope of blackness: single-parent household, born poor, working-class, saxophone-playing, McDonald's-and-junk-food-loving boy from Arkansas."

But as far as the question itself, no, Obama will not run for President, certainly not in 2008... you think Hillary's just going to stand by and let this guy run? LOL

Obama actually has little chance of ever being nominated. Democrats get 90% of the black vote as it is, so they have nothing to gain by nominating this guy... in fact, they would undoubtedly lose a lot of their white voters if Obama were to be nominated. Democrats talk a big game when it comes to giving opportunities to all people, but the party itself never puts blacks in positions of power. And the powers that be in the Democratic party (Clintons, Kennedy, Durbin, Reid. Pelosi) are very anti-black (they're not against black voting for them, but they never put blacks in positions of real power)... Bush 41 named the first black Chairman of the Joint Cheifs, Bush 43 Named the first black Sec of State (actually, the first TWO black Sec of States)... Bush 41 nominated Clarence Thomas for the Supreme Court, Clinton...nothing but white nominees for these positions...

I think he will be our first black President, but I do not believe it will be in 2008. He just doesn't have enough political experience under his belt yet - and that will become a huge issue should he run.

I should add that what I've seen of him so far I like very much.

I like him, a lot. And I hope he does run for president. If not in '08, than in '12 or '16. Whenever that is, he has my vote.

I think he would make a great president but he needs to make sure that he will be strong on defense. He would turn around the economy for sure. I would vote for him. But because he's black he won't get any support from the south. that's the cold hard truth.

I like him, if he desires he could be the first black president but I don't think it will be in 2008

I think he is a great speaker, and a moderate that energizes people!

BUT, he needs to wait until 2012 to run and gain more experience.

IF he ran in 2008, he could win the Democratic nomination.
