My grandmother (maternal) and aunt died within 2 years of each other from breast cancer. Very scary. My aunt was in search of holistic medicine and alternative medicine, and therefore waited WAY too long to have the surgery. She also opted out of chemo, which could have saved her life.

My mom is living (no cancer, thank God!) and my cousins and I are all in our early 20s. Should we make sure the gyno knows about this at yearly exams since it does run in our family? We are not old enough for mammograms yet.

Absolutely - tell your OB/GYN. Breast cancer can run in families, along genes called BRCA. Your mother needs to be getting yearly mammograms, and you all need to be doing monthly self breast exams. Good luck!

Definitely let them know. These things are hereditary, so it's good to let them know it's in your family history.
