It depends on the height. If it is greater than 8 stories I would say the cat should land on it's feet since it has had time to brace for the landing and lick off the butter (assuming it's a MacGuyver cat). If the cat does not have 8 stories to prepare for the landing then maybe the buttered toast would act as a wing in effect helping it to brace for a head first landing (depending on how far on the back of the cat the buttered toast is located). From a great distance (greater than 25 stories) you would have a toast and cat sandwich. Not as good as jelly or jam but just as filling if you remove the hair. However, if dropped from a height far above the Earth the hair would be burned off during entry and would not be an issue.
