That is a good question. The answer is: the jury is still out.

Most experts will say between 6 to 10 hours of sleep and that depends on the individual. The younger a person is the more REM sleep that they need. The older a person is the more rest they need. There was a Japanesse study that stated that between 6 to 8 hours was ideal and anything over 8 hours actually shortened the life expectancy for adults.

Sleep until you are rested. The longer you spend in REM, the worse you actually feel when you awaken.

Anywhere from 6 - 8 hours a night for an adult. A child needs anywhere from 8 - 12 hours of sleep per night.

Doctors say an average of 8. But it varies person to person. I need 9 hours of sleep. The way to find out on a day you don't have to go anywhere, the night before go to bed at your regular time and sleep until you naturally wake up. Just the day before follow your regular day/work schedule. Don't test this on a day with irregular activity.

Depends on habit and custom. Most need at least 7 hours
and some eight. Also depends on depth of sleep, did you
know that sleep clinics exist to study this matter and to correct
sleeping habits and allow more rest from less sleep?
It may sound strange, but this is a serious medical concern.

Recent studies say depending on your age; children and teens need the most sleep 9-12 hours per day. Adults need (if they are healthy) 7-9 and if they are unhealthy 9-12 until their are recuperated.

Sleep is very important for your body. It repairs damage, restores immunity and promotes good mental clarity.

Think it will change around the year - according to how many hours of darkness - your job or domestic responsibilities may mean you have a timetable but if you did not, you would sleep longer in the winter when there is less light

everyone is different and as sleep quality differs nightly, so your need will change, but 4- 8 hours is good. Night workers typically need more as the quality of their sleep during the day tends to be poorer - but often they don't get the opportunity to have as much sleep - I know, I am one!
