Neither.
Nickelback - total crybabies singing about why they can't find a decent girlfriend, much less get laid, and always trying to heap their problems on their listeners like we're psychotherapists. Their lyrics sounds like the confessions of a teenager suffering from depression. All these hits they're getting shows how overrated they are. At least Theory of a Deadman can sing about love they tried so desperately to wotk out
I'd rather listen to a man suffering from unrequited love, than a teenager with more baggage than an airport.
As for Tool - their music is equivalent to noise, and watching their videos make me feel like an avacado seed that isn't sprouting. When I was watching MuchMusic, I had to turn it off as soon as their videos came on... and they lasted for eight fricking minutes. Yawn! Call me bitter, but I don't want to be bored to tears watching a music video.

Defo Tool, more variety of sounds and combination of instruments. All Nickelback songs sound similar.
