I have to move out of my apartment by 6 pm on 10-31, but I can't move into my new apartment till 2 pm on 11-1. What do I do?

I forgot to mention I live in NYC. I've talked to both landlords and neither can budge. Not to mention I have 2 cats...

: (

Supposedly, moving is as stressful as getting divorce... I believe it!

I would rent a U-haul for all your stuff, then sleep in a hotel/motel for the night.

How far are the apartments? Do you have a friend that you can stay with on 10/31? Any friends with a garage? Have you asked your old landlord or new landlord if they could give you an extra day? If none of those are good optins, I suggest renting a moving truck or van and packing all of your stuff in it for that one night. And, I would stay at a hotel for that night if you've no where else to sleep.

mostly likely your old apt has not been rented out, if not asked if you can stay an additional day which is 11-1 and that you'll be willing pay for the prorated rent amount for the day on November first only. or ask on your new apt if you can move in on 10-31 and be willing to pay for the last day of October prorated rent as well.
either way you'll saving money - than by renting truck keeping stuff in storage.
good luck

try to work out something at either apartment complex. if that won't work, you'll need to find some sort of temporary storage for 24 hours. maybe a storage unit can help you for a small fee? or else you may have to pay a penalty with the apartment you are moving out of....good luck.

Either you have to negotiate with the landlord in one place or the other to give you an extra day (early or late) or you will have to put your things into storage. So that would be two moves, instead of one. Not ideal.

That's about it for options.

I would look for a motel/hotel a rent a room and you will have to ask out keeping the cats there, if that is not allowed maybe you could have a friend keep them overnight.

rent a pods. pods allow you to keep their contair for one month in total it will coast about 200-300 dollar. You can put your stuff in thir container and stay somewhere in the mean while and than once you are ready to move in your new place unpack directly from the container. Good Luck!

Have you tried a hotel? Keep as much stuff in your car that you can and keep the rest in the room. A hassle, I know but better than the alternative.

Unless you have a friend with a van or a truck, you're only alternative is U-Haul unfortunately...
