I had all kinds of trouble with birds eating my fish. Koi are expensive to replace. We tried decoy fish, the big owl, wire mesh, and even shooting at them with BB's. Eventually we dug the pond deeper. If your pond is minimum of 3 feet deep the birds will not be able to get to them without drowning (no bird has a beak that long).

Well,,...I have a Koi pond, and although the neighbors have a problem with these pest, I find I don't because my pond is DEEP. I think this is the answer, because I don't have a problem :) arum

simple set up a motion detector to a hose sprinkler place it right near the pond and if a bird or animal gets close the sprinkler will go on, and that's that no more pest

netting is really the only alternative, my husband built a frame
over and around my pond and covered it with screen (like in windows) so it's like a screened in room
we had problems with herons, owls and neighbor dogswho just wanted to swim in the pond

I heard a realistic looking Owl scarecrow will work. Owls prey on everything from Birds and Rats to small raccoons and dogs..
