I've seen it abbreviated both "mo." and "mth". Which is the correct way?

I think mth is the correct way if you are using it in a sentence.

in colloquial General American mo appears indeed to be in usage – high enough at any rate that it's been published in some dictionaries there, and therefore more clearly recognised as month there. Who is your reader?
