she was queen. and they hated her and what the monarchy had come to represent. from the pesants point of view, the monarchy didnt care about the fact that they were starving and dying, marie antoinette was particularly famous for this.
in order to start fresh, they had to get rid of their past. and the worst thing about their past was their rulers, so " off with their heads"
