I believe it's either the singular or plural of a person of the Shi'a branch of Islam. Remove an I and it's the British spelling of sh!t.

Yea its a branch of Islam
thats the prob in Iraq right now, the Shiites and Sunnis are fighting..

When Mohammed the Prophet died around 630 AD, there were two different groups.

The Sunni and the Shiite. I cannot remember which one wanted which, but one believed that Mohammed should have no successor, and the other wanted a new prophet to be picked.

Shiites consider Ali, Mohammed's son-in-law and the fourth of the caliphs, as the first Imam and the rightful successor of Mohammed, and do not accept the Sunna as authorative of Sunnite...
