It's very personal and it depends on how you define a good career or business. First, set a goal for what? do you want in life. Plan what you will do to reach your goal.

I always tell people this, 'You can make money if you can create website or blogs'. by providing free and good information.

I'm 41 now, work from home in shorts and T-shirts and sometimes topless. I set my target as low as to make 1 dollar/page/day. I strive to create a new page for my websites everyday but I have all the freedom I need and making money 24/7 on the internet with Google Adsense and some affiliate programs. The only thing that tie me down is 'how much income I want or need'. Because the more websites and traffic I have will determine how much income I can much.

Anyone who can create websites or blogs to provide lots of good information can make money from Google Adsense. Blogger.com and Google pages lets you create blogs for free and allows you to make money too.

You can make money by joining me or Google as a publisher and publishing Google Adsense on your websites. If someone clicks on those ads, you will earn money.

Why sign up with me? Because we can link to each other to get more traffic and income. I'll working on this website

Think of all your interests & ask yourself if any of those could be expanded into a business. Just keep in mind...what's your expertise? What are your interests? What could you imagine yourself doing?

By researching the prospect of starting your own business -- what it entails, what you need to know, helpful hints, etc -- you'll feel better prepared to take that plunge.

I found some book titles that are relevant to your specific question:

* The Best Home Businesses for the 21st Century by Paul Edwards
* Selling Online: How to Become a Successful E-Commerce Merchant by Jim Carroll

One of the first things I would recommend that you do is start thinking about your interests/passions... and go into an internet business that is based on that. Why? Because it makes the work a lot easier.

Answering the following questions should help you develop ideas:

1) what websites do you visit when you're just surfing online?
2) do you have pets?
3) do you play and sports?
4) do you collect anythings?
5) do you have any specialized education?

See what I mean....

After that, you've got to decide the business model that you want to use - do you want to develop you own product or do you want to be an affiliate marketer (market other peoples products)?

Learn basic skills such as building and uploading websites, setting up autoresponders, setting up a merchant account to take orders, etc.

And then, probably the most important part... you have got to learn how to market you business. If your interested in starting up your own internet business, then I would like to suggest the following:

if you don't have much experience with computers and the Internet - http://www.affiliatemarketinglessons.com/warpspeedwealth.html

If you have good experience with computers and the Internet - http://www.affiliatemarketinglessons.com/IS2006.html

In both cases, the money back guarantee on these products is rediculous...you simply cannot lose and they can do that because of their success rate...

If your interested in affiliate marketing (marketing other people's products/services) then you'll want grab a copy of this book - http://www.affiliatemarketinglessons.com/superaffiliate.html

If your interested in joining an existing internet business, then I would recommend SFI Marketing Group (http://affiliatemarketinglessons.com/SFI.html). I would recommend that you join this opportunity either way because 1) its Free and 2) you'll learn a lot through their training.

Anyways, I hope this helps... and I wish you much success.

HOME BASED BUSINESS

Find the type of business on the link below that best describes what it is that YOU do (or want to do). Then see how to truly use the Net to make your specific business (or business idea) thrive. http://www.wotsnext.com

Or, take a look at how I use the above. Then see if you can fit something similar around your own area of expertise.

Then all you need is a passion and some persistence. http://www.psychic-junkie.com/are-you-psychic.html This page links you to all the resources I use.

Look up for planner jobs e.g. Ann Summers, Virgin Vie, Jewellery party planners etc.

These can be held in the comfort of your own home. Start by inviting friends round and see the response you get cos good friends will give you honest feedback.

Then you can start inviting other people. You'd be surprised how wild these parties can get. Ladies become more adventureous in a private environment. Word of mouth is good advertising.

The easiest businesses are affiliate programs on the internet who will give you a free website then all you have to do is tell people and advertise, lots of free ads out there.

good ones are fastresponce.com/bb/NJ_CM/ - gives away free liquid nutrients

and mannapeople.com/curtis2119 - the probable answer to today's plague of chronic illness

Other nutrition product site is changeisgood.naturerich.net

What do you do? What do people need? These are the first questions you need to ask. Maybe you make something you can sell on EBay. Maybe you can do something that would be useful to doctors in their office. How about all those files? Maybe reducing them to data files easily accessible and putting them on CD for backup.

Start with Affiliate Marketing.
This involves promoting other people's products and you get a commission when someone you refer buys the product.
The products can be info products, or other consumer items that you can buy online.
