Sorry that this question was not very well put, but I was just trying to truncate it....
Most clever people seem to have understood what I was asking though. Hence the very good replies.

I am a visiting nurse, and I make visits to a larger city and all of its surrounding rural and small town areas. There are nice people all over, but by and large the people in the small or rural areas are much nicer. I prefer to visit the outlying areas, or the more poverty areas rather than the million dollar homes. The richer the people are, the ruder they are.

I dont think they are nicer but people who live in cities tend to lead more stressfull lives.

Houses, "Out of town" cost an absolute fortune these days anyway, this therefore means the people who live in them have loads of money so have nothing to worry about. or they have earned loads of money being a bastard to everyone, making them not very nice people.

I live in a pretty affluent area on the outskirts of Newcastle and to be honest most of the people who live here are right tossers. So full of themselves that you want to punch them in the face.

Less stress and more money = happier people. Nicer, definately not.

Perhaps if you have a smaller group of people you need to be better behaved or they are not going to tolerate you. In a small town it takes less than ten minutes to find out the going-ons. You have to get along or be socially isolated. Where as in the city you could more easily be rude or obnoxious as they are strangers to you and you may not have to deal with them again.

You will normally find more people and from a wider spectrum in large cities. Because of cultural differences, people tend to mind their own business in case they offend other people. They are also under more stress, because the pace of life is generally faster in big cities.

In rural areas people have more time to enjoy life. They remember their manners and are generally more helpful and friendly.

Surely you should have rephrased you question to "why are..." because you follow up with "Why ?...", That sort of presuming Sticks peeps are nicer anyway! I don't personally reckon Sticks peeps are any better than City folk, it's just upto you, the people you evolve around.

The only answer to that is your definition of nice.
I've lived in both and found nice in both and obviously the opposite applies so its not where you live but how!

Big cities create stress. You have crowds, lots of traffic, pollution etc. I think it just gets to people who live there so they are more aggressive.
