HPV is Human Papilloma Virus. It is an STD that is transmitted if you had multiple sexual partners or if you sexual partner had multiple partners.

Certain strains of HPV plus genetics of an individual increases your chances of getting Cervical Cancer which is a preventable cancer and also linked to anal cancer.

You can not take anything to get rid of HPV as it lasts with you for life. HPV is mainly asymptomatic but may cause genital warts.Topical creams may be applied to the warts.

Once you are sexually active, you should get pap smears once a year to detect abnormal changes in your cervix (located in your vagina) before it becomes cancer. This is how cervical cancer is preventable.

A vaccine for HPV was introduced in US this year but ages recommended for vaccinations are 9-25 yrs. They are trying to vaccinate ppl before they become infected but this vaccine is only 66% effective at preventing cervical cancer.

HPV is an STD. Its something like 75% of the population has HPV. Its not like gonnorhea or chlamydia where you get antibiotics and it goes away. When you get HPV it usually shows up as an abnoormal PAP smear. Then they do what is called a colposcopy. Its not very pleasant. They essential scrape off a piece of what I believe is your cervical tissue. Then they test it and then sometimes they do a surgery to remove "warts" of some kind insde of you. I have heard that sometimes people with HPV have external warts. Now I have gotten HPV and I never got warts. I didn't even know I had it. But the crappy thing about HPV is that you have it forever. The good news is though that once you have it treated, it does't usually come back. But left untreated it can develop into to cervical cancer. Usually after it is treated, they want you to have a PAP every 3-6 months to monitor whats going on in there. Hope this helped.

HPV is the virus that causes genital warts and can cause cervical cancer. most women never get rid of the virus, in rare cases some women's immune system can fight it off and get rid of it. there are hundreds of different strains of this virus. some are moderate, some are high risk and those cause cervical cancer. it is spread sexually. you should be getting pap smears on a regular schedule and NEVER miss one. there is a new vaccine that can prevent you from getting the high risk types and having them cause cancer. you should go to the website called gardasil.com which is the name of this new vaccine for women and research this. you should ask your doctor if you are eligible for the vaccine. i hope this helps. and good luck to you.
