radioshack used to sell them however they stopped carrying them and you will not find them at most stores, the main reason being that they simply do not work. Cellphone companies are always trying to get better coverage so if they actually worked you would think that they would put them in all of their phones, they are a waste of your money, if they do anythign they will damage your battery.

You don't unless you bought your phone in the 90's it doesn't technically even use the antenna. The phone itself is the antenna the problem is back when all cells used TDMA it needed the antenna but now since all cells are digital the antenna is just cosmetic they kept it on because people were afraid it wouldn't work unless it had one.

That's why they're made of plastic. Ever notice how your radio and tv antennas are made of metal?

antenna boosters will void the warranty. but you can boost the signal. check this site for home and car signal amplifier.
