You have a few choices...
zip up enough files until you have enough space to do what you wanna do. When you are done, unzip them.
Uninstall usless programs that take up a lot of space. Check your add/remove programs and you'll be suprised. Add the program back later if you like.
Run disk clean up and see how much junk you can delete.
Buy a new storage drive (make it a USB2 or firewire dirve) so that you won 't need to do what you are doing. It's very simple. Just plug it in and it works.

If it were me, I'd either buy or borrow an external hard drive to copy the files to, and then send them from there to the DVD drive. With only a 30GB hard drive you might as well get an external anyway, and they're not all that expensive anymore. Below is a link to a 40GB HD on ebay, but shop around wherever you would like. Good luck.

Run disk clean up
Delete all temps files, history etc
Defrag gthe drive
See if you have enough space to move files
If not:
If you have the original software discs, uninstall some software you have currently installed on the machine.
Move the files and then reinstall the software

move your files to another drive, like D or whatever. If you only have 30 gigs, get another drive. They are cheap and it sounds like you need the room. You can move them over and then delete them from C. You can also install apps on the other drives to save room. 30 gigs is pretty small for today, you can get 120 for around $60, and even cheaper if you look for a deal.

all you can do is transfer one or two files at a time to cd if that doesn't work all you can do then is reformatt. you have maxed out your hard drive. there is no other way to clear up the memory issue either reformatt or just delete some files one at a time until the hard drive has enough space. hope this helps!

The answer to your question is to get a flash drive. You can get some for relatively cheap and you can just transfer a major amount of files to it without having to temporarily write any files on your hard drive.

You can go buy an external USB connected Hard Drive & transfer data to there first, this is like an extra 2gigs HD. then transfer to CD/RW. Or simply make a back up disc in your programmes section.

You can buy a large hard drive for about $50 and move some of the stuff there. Some stores will install it for very little if you don't want to. But it is very easy and the instructions are simple

maybe if you move some of your smaller files first......... It sounds like a problem with RAM though. RAM or cache is where temp files are generally stored. Run disk cleanup and you might find alot of files you didn't intend to install.
If you can delete some of them. Maybe that would help.

TO free up your harddrive space, i would recommend you reformat your harddrive first becuase it seems to me that you are in a mess.
Once you did that you can turn off system restore, and set your temporary internet files levels to like 100 mb. If you have media files you could burn it onto a cd
good luck
