Ok yesterday, I found a big turtle in my pool. I was able to get it out with my net...the thing weighed about 3-4 pounds - maybe more. Today I was cleaning my pool and in the skimmer were 2 itzy bitzy turtle...how cute...ok mom is long gone by now..what would you do with them...and what do baby turtles eat? I'm afraid to put them in the back yard...which by the way I have 3 acres of back yard. I'm afraid something will eat them. Like an owl or something. Anybody an expert on turtles?

Mom is long gone because the babies don't need her. The big turtle you caught was probably not her. She lays her eggs and leaves, and they hatch out months later!

I am guessing, since you found them in water, that they are turtles(not tortoises), but I still have no idea what kind. Most aquatic turtles eat a protein based diet. They are carnivores and like bugs, worms, and small fish. You can get feeder crickets and feeder comets at most pet shops. They will also sell turtle pellets. These are good for supplementing, but should only make up about half of their diet. Some veggies/fruit are good, but not too much!

These little guys need a heat source, and a good UV light. They need a large tank, with a really good filter. They need a place to come out of the water and bask(lay in the heat). Turtles are messy and, since they eat alot and their water has to be warm, tend to need frequent water changes. They also get very large fairly quickly.

You need to do some research if you intend to keep them, and once raised in captivity, they should not be released. You can start to find out more www.kingsnake.com, good site with alot of info. Turtles make good pets, but their care is more involved than most people think! Good luck with them!

Oh, one more thing, I would be more afraid of them returning to the pool than getting eaten. If you do release them, make sure it is near a safer water source!

Oooohhhhhh. Bring them inside and keep them in a wide shallow dish with a little bit of water. Try green leafy stuff like lettuce, only not iceberg because it has no nutrition, or call and ask a pet shop what domestic turtles eat.Or try the internet. I help rescue turtle eggs that we re-bury, then release the hatchlings to the ocean, here in Central America.Guys dig them up and sell in bars for 50 cents. Disgusting. Take a look around, the momma might still be near by.

ok, what do they look like. most turtles like letttuce and other varities of vegtables, either land turtles or water turtles. keep them in a warm but cool area, like in the shade of a tree with a blanket. don't forget to give them water.
