i dont know if the babelfish version is right

In general, you d use "gagner de l argent", especially when you worked for the money.
If you didn t really work for it and you just made a big deal, e.g.: an unexpected profit at the stock exchange, you can also use "faire de l argent" but this is rather not common and has got a negative connotation as it implies that you just got it like that...without making any effort.

J ai gagné pas mal d argent à XX Industries= Made quite a lot of money working for XX Industries

While I don't know the exact French myself, I do know the previous poster's response is closer to "to counterfeit" than "to make money". I'd suggest you try "earn money" or "earn a living" in your online translation software.
