Very shortly after it begins to remove files, I get an uninstall error message telling me that it is unable to remove the program. I searched the Symantec support site, but it doesn't seem to offer much help. Does anyone have an idea how I can get my computer to uninstall this program? Please keep it simple. I am not a computer wiz :). Thanks.

Proto, it's just a generic error message that says the uninstallation process has failed.

I don't know of any reason why I would need to be logged in as the administrator, however, I am sure that I am not up-to-date. I recently purchased a brand new 2007 Norton Internet Security and thought it would be simply just to uninstall the old one and install the new one. But Nooooo. I did go through the process of trying to download "live update" from the Symantec site, however, when it finished it told me that it did not fix the problem.

Jibber, Sorry......been there, done that, but thanks for the info.

Use the Norton Removal Tool from here:

What error does it give? Sometimes you need to unintall additional components (like perhaps a a newer version of liveupdate) before the main program. In other cases, you might need to be logged in as administrator to unintall (especially if that's how it was originally installed). Unfortunately, Symantec is notorious for some older products not unintalling properly- sometimes people have to manually delete the registry key and remove the folders from your hard disk, which I wouldn't advise if you're not pretty adept at such things.
