That is something she will have to overcome by herself. You can not make yourself feel guilty or responsible for someone else's self esteem. She will either get some new found courage or find another mother figure like you to keep boosting her ego. She must have missed something in childhood, but you can't blame yourself for that. Have a nice trip abroad.. be safe and get on with your life, if you have to cut her off.. she may be the one who calls you later and has changed into a complete extrovert.

sorry but she can be the only one to improve her self esteem. you can help by both of you starting journals that are for you each two write down things that went on threw out the day that make you feel good and that you did. ( each of you)
or both of you go to borders and hang out and initiate reading materials on positive affirmations or stuff in the self help section.

introduce her to new people, even if it is your relatives or a neighbor that is not your age. and let her know all of the good traits she has. liike when you are talking to her, just add in things like oh you are so patient and things like that. tel her that you love her and care about her and so does God. she is God's daughter!
