Um? The BERLIN wall separated East- and West- Berlin.
This was in the heart of communist East-Germany, but, since it was the capital of Germany at the end of World War II, the Russians allowed the Allies to occupy the west half.
It was begun on the night of 13th August 1961 and was regularly improved and upgraded.
On 9th November 1989 the border was finally reopened.

The Berlin Wall separated East Berlin from West Berlin.
Berlin was/is the capital of Germany and after WWII the allied powers split the country into several pieces (one for England, France, the US, and USSR) which they would then occupy. The Soviet Union received the part of Germany which contained Berlin, however an agreement was reached to split Berlin between the allied powers as well...into a segment controlled by the Soviets and one controlled by the other powers. The Soviets decided to put up a wall in order separate their section from the other countries' section....what came to be known as the Berlin wall.
As the name implies, the Berlin wall separated the city of Berlin, not the entire country of Germany.

not two countries, but separate one country, to east and west Germany (as already said) the wall was inside the Berlin (wasn't the Berlin divided but the whole Germany!). it was like borders. when the the wall felt, the country became one again.

The wall, built in 1961, separates East Berlin-the capital of the Communist German Democratic Republic-from West Berlin. West Berlin, a political enclave of Federal Republic of Germany, is separated from it by 160 kilometers(100miles) of East German territory
