They're BUCKEYES and they are awarded to the player when he makes a great play!So the more you see on a players helmet the better he has been playing.In case you don't know what a buckeye is, it's a small dark brown nut-like fruit that grows on trees here in OHIO.

They are buckeye leaves. They represent big plays made by that person. So say the kicker makes a 40 yard field goal, he will get a buckeye leaf on his helmet.
