It's part of medical practice for an OB/GYN to give a yearly pelvic exam and pap smear. It's just as normal for your Principle Care Provider/Family Doctor to do the same to find out if you need to be referred to an OB/GYN.
You need to CHILL and get used to it.
The BEST OB/GYNs I have ever had (I'm 48 and been seeing them for 30 years now) have been MALE! They take you a LOT more seriously when you say you are in true pain than female docs do.

I don't know how old you are but obviously old enough to need exams. There are some awsome male Dr.'s out there and they are just doing there job. You should try to be more mature about it or just get a female Dr. which by the way has to do the same exams. Wait till you have children when everyone comes in and checks you or is just in the room while they are. I think you should adopt. Ha Ha.

My primary doctor was a female. She was AWESOME!!
My first ob/gyn(when I was 18-21) was a male.He was OK.
My second ob/gyn(ages 22-29) was a female. She was OK.
My current ob/gyn(ages 30-to now) is a male. He is Awesome!
I currently am pregnant and I am seeing the female doctor at his office because I feel better about pregnancy with a female who has kids. But before I got pregnant I went to the male doctor. And he was so caring and gentle.

I have a male doctor. He even delivered my baby. There is nothing wrong with that. If you are uncomfortable, change doctors. Remember, it is his job. If anything seems strange or aggressive tell the nurse. He should have a female nurse in the room with you when he does the exam.

I know that this stinks...It does it's uncomfortable and awkward, but it has to be done. They need to check for abnormalties and stuff, like they also want to check for growths ( tumors, cancer) and other things. They want to make sure your ok. But because this is very awkward you may want to see if you can switch doctors for that part or all of it. Your choice. Hope I Helped!

To make sure you're healthy down there.
If you're that uncomfortable, switch to a female doctor.
