My 3 (almost 4) month old son is crying uncontrolably. He is showing signs of teething.. I give him a rag to chew on, I do the baby tylenol, orajel on his gums, i give him frozen things to chew on, but nothing helps. He wont stop screaming, and it upsets me because I cant help him. Have any of you experienced this? What can I do for him? Its mostly during the day, not during the night. I cant put him down to nap or anything

Hey there. 1st of all the tylenol for teething really isn't that great. It does not have an anti infalmmatory in it, which is a lot of what happens on the gums. Try the mortin it will do worlds better.
Check some other things, does he have gas? Give him sime mylecon (or buy the dollar store brand, same thing- cheaper) it is safe to use on even the newest of newborns. If that helps it was the gas. Put towels or blankets on his windows for naps to keep the light out. Try him in the swing, w/ wout music. Try to bathe him in warm water and then get his little belly nice and full, and try to put him down or even rock him to sleep.
Check inside his mouth for small white bumps, if they are there get him to his pedi for some anti biotics.
I highly doubt it is colic or he wouldn't be sleeping at night. Is there something different you do at night versus the day.....or perhaps it could just be he is so exhausted? It could be so many diff things. Is he going to the br alright? Is he spitting up/projectile vommiting? That could be a sign of formula intolerance, (although rare since he has been doing fine on it this long I assume.)
My advice would be to try and check the things I mentioned, then take him to his pedi. Most likely it is nothing serious, just something he has to go through, many babies and mothers do. I know it is driving you nuts, but it will pass. (And then there will be other situations lol)
Give the little guy a hug for me, hope he gets to feeling better.

I'm so sorry that you're going through this. You must be exhausted. Certainly you should take him in for a doctor's appointment and explain the situation. He might be lactose intolerant? He may also be sensing your nervousness (babies do that!). Try taking him outside for a walk or maybe a ride in the car. Another thing that helped my babies was massaging their feet when they were upset. Also, just so you know, my son never slept more than five hours a day when he was an infant! And as he grew no naps. Aaack. If you need to, have someone come in so you can get some rest too.

Take his temperature. It should not be over 100 while he is teething. Give him a warm rag to chew on. Sounds weird, but it works. My son is still teething. They will cry, alot. Some babies more than others. Also, as long as he has a fever alternate tylenol and motrin. If the fever goes up or he develops a rash or any other irritation, take him to the doctor.

I finally had to give in and give my son a pacifier for his teething. I bought some Playtex one that are made for teethers, I guess. I have tried just about everything. Sure the Tylonel works for about 3 hours, but I really don't want my son being on that stuff all the time. I got the baby Origel(I got the nighttime store brand) and that didn't help at all either. Then I tryed the Hyland's Teething Tablets which worked ok. My sister bought me some really cool teething rings they are kind of soft, but you can put them in the fridge. My son likes these teething rings, but then they get too cold on his gums.

I have heard the homeopathic teething tablets work really well. Also see if you can give him baby Advil, it works way better than Tylenol. Other than that try the swing, hold him and try to comfort him. Missing a few naps til the teething is over won't hurt anything. Also see if he'll drink some cold liquid. My baby loved ice water. I would call his patrician first just to make sure its just teething and see if they can help you.

Baby orajel can somtimes make the gums hard and make teething hurt more. If you have tried all of those things I would try to find out if somthing else could be causing the discomfort. If its teething and nothing works just have to deal until that stage is over ...good luck (:

Dear Ash, first of all your baby is so beautiful, I am a grandma, and my grandson is about the same age as your baby, (born 7/06) my daughter is going threw the same thing, but she does give him some drops for his gassy tummy, e-mail me and I will tell you what it is, can't get a hold of her right now...but boy the gas comes out loud, poor baby, Massage your baby's tummy, and the rest of your baby's body, with Olive Oil, and it could be the Milk too, but yes take your baby to the Dr. for your babies comfort. And yours..my baby is almost 20 yrs, so I forgot ..lol...just remember a few things...good luck and write me so I can give you the name of the stuff for gas, this way you can ask your doctor if it is ok to give it to your baby...god bless..

I went through this twice. Once it was an ear infection, but if you've taken him to the doctor, he would have found that.

Another time, it was gas. Give him a small bottle of water with a few drops of peppermint oil. It worked wonders for my daughter! Peppermint is a great natural, safe remedy for little ones and adults for upset stomachs.

When you put him down for a nap is the room dark and calming? If he is sleeping well at night and not during the day then maybe his room is to bright. Also I would ask your doctor for suggestions for his teeth if that is even the problem. Good luck.

Gas is the biggest problem for babies, it is very uncomfortable. Get some baby gas drops or a little trick I learned with my two, was to put them on my lap,( in a sitting position, in a chair) with their back to my stomach, and with my arm, apply a little pressure to their stomach, in a couple of minutes, they may be able to pass the gas, if not then it at least brings some relief from the pain.
I feel for you sister, been there-done that. Good luck to you
