Europeans aren't too lazy to go pick the fruit themselves and they have a much better welfare system that doesn't allow their citizens to sponge off the government indefinitely like the US. If we toughened welfare laws, than Americans would get off their lazy @sses and go do the work instead of the illegals.

The suggestion that Mexicans do jobs Americans refuse to do is a very broad and politically charged statement. Such statements should not be taken seriously. However, it is true that some jobs are more likely to be filled by Mexicans and less likely to be filled by Americans. For decades spanning nearly a century, immigrants from a wide variety of countries have performed less attractive jobs. So it's not that Americans won't work certain jobs. As a matter of historical reality and current conditions, some jobs are simply most often filled by immigrants and Americans generally do not apply for them. You will do yourself a favor by ignoring broad generalizations. I hear them all the time by both pro- and anti-immigrant groups. Such statements are valuable for debates when there's little time to explain, but tend to cloud the facts when debated beyond soundbites and protest signs.

They don't...that is misleading.
There are areas they have concentrated..thus they take the majority of the work. However there are places i.e. farmlands..that they only do 20pct of the work..I guess the rest is
done by leprechaun's.
Also there is a group now trying to form a union demanding certain wages.
When you compute their medical, schooling, housing costs, the total burden on our economy, they are getting paid more than the average American would be paid for the same job. Given the choice of those wages and benefits and low taxes since they don't pay them all. Americans would do the work.
And you would be able to speak to them directly. Not their 10 year old, or 11, or 12, 13, 14.. Who can have 3, 4, 5 kids now a days on their supposedly low wages.

You mean the jobs MOST americans wont do...
...I don't remember there being any stand-off over who gets to pick the fruit or the cotton, do you ?
DO YOU FEEL PREVENTED from getting a back-breaking job, bending and kneeling in the dirt, surrounded by swarming insects, breathing pesticides, and making pennies on the pound... ?
And by Europe, do you include France ??? Do you know what troubles they are having over there relevant to this?
In European countries, they have the people who are non-indigenious to that country fill the less desireable jobs (which ironically is the opposite here)... with their own countrymen preferred for more desirable positions (just like over here).
While I agree that necessity is the mother of invention... it is only the tip of the iceburg... and the inventors better get crackin'...
Besides... I think the current issue is over "Illegal Aliens"... not Mexicans... not legal immigrants...
IMHO, I believe it's all-of-a-sudden an emergency issue to distract you away from the real issues... "pay no attention to the man behind the curtain"
BTW... I hear we are going to spend billions and billions on a fence or on the great wall .... but, ummm... don't they have shovels and wirecutters in Mexico too ? (OMG...Can ya hear 'em laughin' ?)

Every country in Europe has what the Germans call "guest workers". Can't follow your cotton and strawberries comparison. And lastly, are you saying that if no one made fuel efficient vehicles, the gas prices would stay low ?I think I can anwer your first part-if I understand the question. You get what you pay for. If I can't earn a living wage to do a job, I won't do it.

it's a cop out basically, but the blame lies with crooked employers. Simply put, would you work for anything less thhan minimum wage, with no benefits, while your employer gets away with not having to pay taxes for you? No i didn't think so, and in fact it is illegal for an employer to pay you less than minimum wage without offerring some other form of compensation, like waiters who keep their tips, or salespeople who work on commision.
So, it's not so much that us Mexicans are willing to do jobs that you're not willing to do, it's that the situation back home is do dire, that we are willing to do anything for pretty much any compensation. Think about it like this, would you rather work for $1.00 a week or $2.00 an hour? yeah, me too.
i hope this helps.

Undocumented workers are outlaws. Of course they are willing to work for slave wages.
The thing is Americans would do the work if they were paid appropriately. How can an American work a job that would not feed his family or provide health care or even unemployment compensation? Only an outlaw would do that.

The Euro trash have a working class. Mostly Philipino's
But as for what they can do that the average American will not do.
How about translator? We could use 12 million translators to translate for the 12 million legal immigrants that refuse to lean English
Go big Red GO

For the most part its hard labor types of jobs.
There are also quite a few other jobs that new immigrants do (not just Mexicans) that not many long time residents/citizens do (e.g. cab driver)
Somebody would do those jobs regardless of national origin.
In europe, they have their own immigrants and/or laborers which do those jobs (e.g. people from eastern europe or africa).

Americans can be very lazy and anything Americans pay is better than the wages Mexicans used to make. So of course they'll do any job.
