9 pm. Most of the kids DESERVING of treats will be done by then (...if their parents have any sense). Anyway, at least around where I live MOST parents take their kids to malls for trick-or-treating so I don't have to worry about it much.
Remember this year it's a school night. Just put a note in the door at 9pm that you're "sorry but out of treats" and shut off ALL of your lights. That's what I do and it works 99.9% of the time. With all my lights out, if I do get a knocker I don't answer!

In my area the official cut off time is 7:00 p.m. However, we have a family at the end of the block that goes out about 7:30 because the parents work late.

Leave a "serve yourself" bowl of candy by the door and go to bed, honey. Just make sure it's not an expensive piece of China!

Remember that it's probably the older ones that are staying out really late (like the college kids pretending to be younger for the free loot)! So, if you turn in, it won't be that big of a deal. I suppose it depends on what time trick-or-treating begins and go for two or three hours.

Whenever I run out of candy, kids stop showing up, or 9:30 pm, whichever comes first.
