I don't mind doing it once in awhile as a guy and out in public i usually open doors for women, but once i was in a hurry and didn't open a door for a women and got glared at. In the subway, i took the only seat ahead of another women and got glared at. What gives? I think its great when people appreciate some type of chivalry but to expect it. What gives?

I don't like the idea that chivalry is only a practice for men. I open the door for men and they open they open the door for me (usually)....I don't expect it but I try to give it.

I'm always flattered by it. I certainly don't expect it, but I find it quite refreshing. I also hold doors for people whether they are male or female and just in general try to be polite and thoughtful. If the woman you took a seat of ahead of on the subway was older, I could see getting glared at. I give up my seat for anyone who is older, male or female. Lots of times they don't take me up on the offer, but I personally would feel bad if I didn't make the offer.

I don't expect it from any random guy, just my husband, and not even all the time. And I am always flattered by it.

I am definitely flattered and appreciate it. It's rare these days, so when it happens, I say thank you.........that's if I'm not shocked out of my senses and forget who I am, what my name is, and where I am. Thats happened to me once. I'll never forget it........

Ummm....well, none of the boys in my class would lay a finger on us, but I guess that's just an old maxim. I don't mind, really. It's either there, or it's not. Besides, I don't really deserve it. :)
