British people aren't generally racist I think. It is just that in the past few years being politically correct has gone so far that people don't tend to say exactly what they think in public, so it comes out on the internet. I think their biggest issue is not so much the influx of "foreigners" but more that many of them don't appear to make enough effort to speak fluent enough English, or to settle into and accept the English culture and way of life. People are just more likely to write what they think behind the anonymity of the internet rather than vocalise such strong and direct opinions overtly.

No I have not seen a great deal of racism on here but the truth be known I think there is an undercurrent of racism in England today or at least it seems so I might be wrong but there seems to be lots more racial tension out and about maybe I am just imagining it I personally believe that people are getting p****d off with the feeling of preferential discrimination at the moment I find it hard to understand why my wife was stopped entering a shopping centre cos she was wearing a hooded top but there were several women of Asian lineage wearing the full veil but having no problem in going about there shopping trip my missus is a self confessed chavette with a mouth like a stevedore and the security stormtroopers threatened to get the police when she pointed out the fact that the group of Asian girls had there veils on but knowing my missus probably none to subtly as that is not one of her strong points what with her being a bar-person in a very lively pub and also had a spell as a door person in the same bar! To be quite honest I could understand her point But please do not write me off as a racist as I don,t think I am !!!

Difficult question.
I have seen a lot of racist views expessed here by British people but I can't help but wonder if it has something to da with the fact these people are sitting behind a computer and are essentially faceless. I think the Internet allows the extremes in us a voice and that these people probably aren't racist. In fact I would be willing to bet that if confronted with a person from another race then they would keep their views to themselves. Racist is probably the wrong word. Cowards is probably a better term.
Good observation all the same as I have been wondering the same thing.

People who bother to participate in Y!A are people who are bothered, driven to do so.
So any question that might be answered in a racist way will attract racist answers; on teh other hand, non-racists might not answer the question.
Therefore the proportion of racist answers should be more than the proportion of racists in the internet-friendly section of the population that is on Y!A.
The same thing for questions.
So when you look at Y!A, you have more racist questions and more racist answers than would be representative of the internet-friendly section of the population that is on Y!A.
Finally, the anonimity of Y!A can encourage slightly more extreme behaviour.
Therefore I would answer 'no' to your question.
1 Y!A represents only a sectionof the British (and more) public since not everyone has internet and is on Y!A, and chances are people here aren't representative of the public
2 Given the way people behave, chances are racists are mroe visible on Y!A.
3 Y!A anonimity can encourage more extreme behaviour, including racism, homophobia... ..

No it is not a true representation. Initially people will think in a racist way. But with reflection and understanding in the main the British public will and have accepted what life has thrown at them in relation to their country. It's liken to rebirth in so much that what is happening now, is better now than later.

I don't think it's a true representation of the British public at all. Maybe it is because Yahoo Answers is anonymous that they feel they can vent their spleen. If they said what they believe in public they would be arrested. Or maybe they are just trying to provoke a reaction. In which case, they have succeeded!

I agree with the first answer. But also remember, it is fine that people can express what they really think - your opinion is not necessaarily right or correct! and peoples opinions are usually based upon their own life experiences. I was burgled 3 times whilst at work by young black african males - yep, it's real hard not to be racist when you see your home all smashed up 3 times! so perhaps you are luckier -I am pleased for you

It is not a true representation of the British Public, but most of us are a bit p1ssed off with the way we are being dictated to at the moment. an example recently being Fiona Bruce, the newsreader was told not to wear her cross and chain on TV as it could cause offense, as has a lady working for BA. Yet, there are fanatical preachers enticing terrorism and spouting their hatred at every given opportunity whilst claiming benefits that the honest hardworking taxpayer pays for. There was an incident last week when a Muslim teacher failed to remove her full faced veil in the classroom whilst teaching 10yr olds, yet she did not wear this veil at her interview. It seems, that Muslims in this country expect us to conform to their every need and whim, whilst using their religion when it suits them!

its a true reflection ofthe public, we are fed up with all this religious stuff being shoved down our throats, this is england embrace our culture, our ways, our children, you will only here for a short time, bring on the revolution and kick out all the scum that has turned our country into a nanny state. Its the english men who are the problems, we are weak and need to realise that if we dont act now our country will be lost.

No...I think its a representation. It's kind of sad how shallow and close-minded people can be. The main reason u think they might be attracted to Yahoo Answers is becuz their stupidity makes them stick out.
