What kind of protection does the flu vaccine offer?
A flu shot is between 70 percent and 90 percent effective in warding off illness, depending on the length and intensity of a given flu season and your overall health. In a few cases, people who get a flu shot may still get the flu, but they'll get a much less virulent form of the illness and, most important, they'll have a decreased risk of flu-related complications — especially pneumonia, heart attack, stroke and death — to which older adults are especially vulnerable. Even though the shot may sting a bit it is a good preventative medication so in my opinion it is well worth it. I will be getting mine next week. Also frequent hand washing works. It is the friction of rubbing that gets rid of the germs.

I never had one and never will. I will not allow Donald Rumsfeld's companies to inject me with poison or some dormant virus which can be activated at a certain time and kill me. Call me paranoid but I have the freedom to not be injected by the government. Flu shots are now being distributed at McDonalds drive-thrus - what is next, Nurses going from car to car in traffic jams to give flu shots?

flu shots don't hurt as bad as the flu. a small price to pay for the comfort of knowing you won't get the flu.
