I just purchased a Netgear wireless router yesterday and I just found out today that its refurbished. I'm worried that it might be a broken piece of junk, and I was wondering if anyone has ever purchased a refurbished router. I've seen the ratings for it on multiple websites and they're all pretty good, but it might be useless if it is defective.

The only thing you can do is try it. It might work as good as new

It should be fine. Most refurbished stuff like that simply has the "innards" replaced. Of course, you have no idea what was wrong with it in the first place. It could have been as simple as the power supply and nothing in the router itself. Also, the I'm assuming the router is on a single board. So, it quite likely had a new board placed inside.

Also, I think most refurb stuff is warranted as well.

You should be fine... if not, return it.

Refurbished equipment is usually more reliable than new because it has had more "Quality Control". applied. Someone has actually turned it on and tested it, unlike all new stuff. Sometimes it is equipment that has failed and been returned and repaired. Sometimes the user didn't know what they were doing and thought it was broke and retrned it. Sometimes the owner got a better price during the return period. Sometimes it is equipment removed from service or off lease. Maybe the shipment was in a shipping accident. A lot of possible reasons.

I purchase refurbs as often as I can. It is true that refurbs were once broken, but they were returned and had to be fixed and re-tested, which is a more rigorous process than that of a new product. Right now at least half of my computer components are refurbs, and they have been more reliable than my bought-new parts.

I always try and buy refurbs. You save a boatload of money and any bugs or defects are taken care of BEFORE you buy it.

Buying refurbished equiptment is a win-win situation all arround.

Yes, but be sure that it works when you buy it. It should work just as well as any other router.
