the answer is: z=3
you can work this problem many ways
The easiest way to work this one is: add 1/6 to both sides of the equation.
then subtract 3/4z from both sides
or in other words, put the numbers on one side of the equation and variables on the other
you should get 4/4z=18/6 which is z=3

If you need help with this work, go to your teacher to help you. you need to get help one on one, not over a computer. fractions and math in general are way too complicated to learn over the computer. Hope this helps!

Here's a website that explains the steps for solving different types of equations:

http://www.sosmath.com/algebra/solve/solve0/solve0.html

it actually has an example similar to your question.

7/4z - 1/6 + 1/6 = 17/6 + 3/4z +1/6
7/4z = 18/6 + 3/4z
7/4z - 3/4z = 18/6
4/4z = 18/6
1/z = 3
multiply
1 = 3z
z = 1/3

It might be easiest to add 1/6 to both sides, and subtract 3/4z from both sides, to get

4/4z = 18/6

Then cross multiply (you could reduce first): 24 = 72z

Divide both sides by 72 and get 24/72 = 1/3 = z

this is what you do....find a common denominator for all of your fractions. after that place the numbers with 'z' in it to one side and place the rest of the numbers to the other. remember when you carry a number across the '=' switch it to positive if the number is negative or switched it negative if the number is positive. fond here i reccomend you multiply the deominator to both sides. That should make all of your numbers whole. then divide the number beside the 'z' to both sides and you have your answer. ^_^
