It's hard to adopt a baby here. They make it easier to adopt from foreign countries as far as I know. Foster care is a good ideal. I am getting ready to take the classes. But, if you are looking for a baby to adopt, babies are babies. I have known people that waited so long for an American baby that they adopted from another country. And after reading the comments before me, I am so suprised on how heartless , and closed minded that these comment are. From the comments, I read that it "makes me sick" when she sees that. I have a very close friend adopted from south Korea. He was so premature and sickly his mother thought if she or someone didn't adopt him he would have died in the poor conditions that he lived in. He looks at his adopted mother as his hero. He is extremely smart, well educated citizen, productive member of society, and as American as any red blooded American I know. I hope to God that these freaking people are ashamed of themselves. I understand that they are saying take care of the usa kids first, but if it takes years, some people aren't willing to wait that long. Why is it so bad to help another person regardless of the race. That's just horrible that people feel this way.

Amen to that! I have a big problem with all these globe-trotters displacing kids from foreign countries when there are plenty of needy kids right here at home in the USA who need help. It makes me sick every time I see a couple with Chinese or Guatemalan adoptees. Why can't they get some kids from right here in the USA? I am also disappointed in Madonna for going to Africa to adopt. She should have done a domestic adoption in the USA or England (both places she has residences).

Here's a different slant: I think American parents don't want to worry about their adopted child's real parents coming after their kid. It happened to my friend; they adopted domestically, and then fought a custody battle for two years. "Luckily," their son's real father was an abusive alcoholic, so they won. But for parents who just want a child that is all their own with no custody issues, foreign adoption can give them that peace of mind.

I agree with you 100%. People started adopting from overseas because unfortunately our government makes it very difficult to adopt here by making the criteria almost impossible to achieve. Then adopting foriegn children became a fade. It is really sad!!!

The red tape is sometimes easier to get through with an overseas adoption.

Well, does it really matter? A "parentless" child is getting a home.

No.
Adoption should always be domestic if possible.
