I'm thinking along the same lines as you are. My husband and I have about 10 more years, at the most.
I have just about come to the conclusion that the most inexpensive place to retire is right where you ARE.... where ever that might be.
It costs a lot of money to sell your home and buy another one. When you are retired, you really don't have to go any place, so you can stay home where it is warm. If you want a suntan, go to the nearest tanning salon.
Clear everything out of your home that you don't need.
Have an advanced estate auction. Label all your stuff so your kids will know who gets it. If you don't have so much clutter in your house, you can get by without doing too much on a daily basis.

Wilmington, NC was voted one of the top 10 cheapest and one of the top 10 best places to live in the US. It was the only city to make the top 10 on both lists.
