I did my own divorce.

In the paperwork it asked specifically what percentage of court costs would be paid by myself and what half should be paid by my spouse. I put half and half.

However, I paid the full amount thinking that the court would go after the other half. It made sense to me that the divorce fees had to be paid in full before the judge would sign the paperwork.

Now it comes out that in fact I should have only paid half and he would have been persued by the court for the other half.

Is there anything I can do to get my half back that I paid for (unknowingly) for my ex-husband?

The fee was 386 dollars. He would owe me half of that. I know it is not a lot, but it is the principle of the thing. He owes me the money, and he is acting like he doesnt.

You can probably take him to Small Claims Court.... if the money at issue is worth the hassle and stress.

I think you're probably talking about half of a forty dollar filing fee. You could take him to Small Claims Court, and might not be thrown out under the principle of "de minimis non curat lex" (the law doesn't fix trivia), but don't you seriously have better things to do with your morning than sue over twenty bucks?

Not unknowingly. You will have to sue him in court to recover your half.
