I work at a place where the whole management is hypocrites. It is a formal dining restaurant, family owned. The manager and the supervisor steal money out of waitresses paychecks which the money comes from catering events, parties weddings ect. The supervisor has been accused of being a lesbian and cheating on her husband and rumors have been flying. ever co worker of mine has said something about it. well last week we had a group meeting all the employees per say. the head manager is a male and he was not present when this happened or else he would have done something on the spot. the supervisor cursed, threw things, told us we dogged her out i guess this is slang or something who knows but anyway. she said if she hears something about her having affair with a person at work she will knock their teeth out this is a threat. she basically threatened all of us. she said this off gossip 2 waitresses went back and told her what we were saying. can she get fired?

Workplace gossip can get you fired for creating a hostile environment. Management wll win on this one so your best bet is to keep quiet and not participate in the gossiping. She was not threatening you. When gossip gets to the point of ruining other peoples lives she could take legal action. As far as the tips go, talk to someone about it. It could have been an oversight or it was someone other than management. If it was, they will want to know about it so they can correct the problem. I try not to work for family owned business for this precise reason. If it gets too bad, try a chain. Their policies are consistent and enforceable. Not that you won't have problems there, too. You will always have to put with some unpleasantness in the work place. Good luck!

No, she can not get fired for defending herself. Sounds like she is frustrated that your co-workers have nothing better to do than talk about her.

More than likely, the senior manager is aware that she discussed her anger with your team.

Besides, all the rest of you that slander her 24/7 could get fired! Take that discussion as a warning. Be prepared to shape up or ship out!

I can't say about the paycheck--you haven't really explained that enough for me to answer. But, probably its not stealing---taking taxes on the tips from the party??

I think if someone accussed me of cheating on my husband, I might threaten to knock someone's teeth out. This does not sound to be like a "employees" meeting, it sounds more like a ***** or "clear the air" meeting. I think the one who accussed the supervisor of cheating on her husband should be fired as this is none of any of your businesses. It does not affect your working conditions. If you dont listen to vacious gossip or spread it, then you dont have to worry about getting your teeth knocked out. .
