if the integers are of the same sign add the absolute values and
give the common sign to the sum
if the integers are of different sign subtract the smaller absolute value from the bigger absolute value and give the difference the sign of the integer with the greater absolute value
example
2+5=7
-2+-5=-7
-2+5=3 and
2+(-5)=-3

ok when its like -5-(-9) you conert it into -5 +-9 because there is never subtracting in intergers and when 2 negatives are together then that is du du double negation and you need to convert them in to a + ok now if the numbers are like this : 5-6 you box them you box the -6 and you do another box for 5 now you write it down and add a +sign like this: 5+-6 and then you subtract the 6 from the five because they are different symbols so you subtract 6-5 that equals 1 now you see wich symbol has the grater number for ex. -6 is the bigger number so the answer is -1 its kind of confusing but ask your teacher how she cqan help you or something thats what i did and im learning about integers right now in my math class

use rules like if adding numbers of the same sign add the numbers and keep the common sign
if adding numbers with different signs take the difference and the sign of the larger
subtraction of a negative = addition of a positive
addition of a negative = subtraction of a positive
(if confused just think them over slowly)
use rules like these or just go to your teacher for extra help

positive multiply or divide negative = negative
negative multiply or devide negative= positive
-5-(-9)
because the negative infront of -9 becomes +9 so you have
-5+9=4
