Just go out, the coach will sort out if you have any talent.
You could always be a guard or center.
If you're serious, talk with a few players on the team, and see if they will work with to help find what position would be a good fit, and to help you practice to be able to make the team.

Football is not at all about catching, that is just a very small part of the game. Football is a team sport with every player on the field with an assignment. You could go the whole game and do your job but one blown assignment and the other team scores could be all the difference in the winner and loser. What you need to ask yourself is can I be a team player, and can I be a football player. If the answer is yes to both of those questions then you should play football.

To get better at any sport, the first thing you have to do is watch the professionals do it. Watch every football game you can and try to pick up on the little things the athletes do. Go out and practice by yourself at first, and then practice with friends. Practice catching and your footwork. Eat plenty and condition yourelf by running, and lifting weights.
If this doesn't work, then you either didn't put enough work into it, or you just aren't destined to play football.

Your inability to catch does not mean you cannot learn how to play football. Linemen, defensive backs, and linebackers don't necessarily have to be good at catching.
There is one position that does not require catching: place kicker. If you're a good soccer player, you may excel at this.

Why do you want to join the football team is what you need to ask yourself.
Second... practice makes perfect, get a couple friends together and just practice your butt off.

Just try out. Unless you're at college level or above, hard work and willingness to stretch yourself will be more important than talent.
