Yes, but why would you? He is obviously not an honorable man if he is asking you to marry him while he is still married to someone else. Think about it...

Yes, he sure can. My fiance is still married. He's been separated four years now because his wife was committed to a state mental hospital for paranoid schizophrenia by her parents. We're still waiting to find out how he's going to get his divorce from her but yes a man can be engaged to you just can't marry until he has a divorce from his wife.

An engagement is an agreement or promise to marry, and also refers to the time between proposal and marriage. Realistically it is hard to promis to marry when one is legally prohibited to marry, But promises are promises i consider such promise in circumstances worthless.
The concept of an engagement period may have begun in 1215 at the Fourth Lateran Council, headed by Pope Innocent III, which decreed that "marriages are to be . . . announced publicly in the churches by the priests during a suitable and fixed time, so that if legitimate impediments exist, they may be made known." imagine married man announcing in the church that he will marry another woman after he get divorce sound pathetic.

sure. He can be engaged without being separated. An engagement is just a promise to marry. He just can't fulfill that promise until after the divorce.

Yes. But he can't marry until he is legally divorced. My question to you is why would you (or any woman) want to be engaged to a fantasy that might not come true? This man is not available. Emotionally, or legally.

getting engaged is only saying that you are promising to marry someone, but marriage cannot happen until previous marriage is legally ended.

engagement is not a legal thing, it's a question, and an answer...no divorce is needed. However, marriage is a legal thing, and that has to be completed prior to remarriage.

Yes, he can. Engagement is not a legal arrangement, but a "sentimental" one. It is not illegal to get engaged while separated.
