...... I'm getting emails from people I've not even thought about in 20 years. Should I write them back? Or would it be opening myself up for something I might not be able to juggle at this point in my life?

Any advice?

Okay...

First off...I would be pssed as hell if my school published personal information about me online...like my email address and stuff...without asking me first. Did you give them permission to do that? If you did...then you had to expect the emails or letters to come in at some point. If you didn't...oops.

So now people you haven't thought of in decades have made contact. (I'm personally amazed that people cruise their old high schools' websites after 20+ years, that's just spooky.) If these people were your good friends, you would still be talking to them now, right? Well, you sure don't have to make your response to them a big deal if that isn't what you want. Just do the standard small talk thing..."Oh Hi, so-and-so...yep, life is good, thanks, hope all is well with you, blah blah blah." And leave it at that. They probably were just doing one of those "awww...remember her? I wonder how she is...oh look I can email" types of things...just for the nostalgic novelty of it.

Now if these are old boyfriends (and they would be "old" now, right? lmao) and they wanna rekindle something "that once was" be sure to ask about their net worth, how many wives they've had, and if they are prepared to keep you in the manner to which you've become accustomed. Perhaps drop a line or two about needing a Tiara or something....that'll hook 'em.

You never know, you might regain something. I don't think you have anything to lose.

I had the same thing a few years ago. My best friend from school recontacted me after about 10 years, as did a few other former friends.

We exchanged a few e-mails, caught up briefly with what was going on in our lives. But at the end of the day it all fizzled out in a few months. We had different lives, we'd moved on. I had other people and other things that were far more important in my life and he had the same. With the other friends I hadn't been as close to - it really was just one or two e-mails. We had nothing to say to each other.

It seemed more sad than never having gotten back in contact at all initially. Then I forgot about it and moved on (well, until you reminded me :-) )

Marianne? Is that you? Don't you remember me? I was in Mrs. Tirebiter's third period current event's class. I was the one that smelled like Stri-Dex and had a small bit of duct tape holding my glasses together. You were always making complimentary comments about how attractive my pocket protector was. Our class renunion is coming around soon. I was wondering if you would be my date. I drive a metallic lime green AMC Pacer in mint condition. I only drive it to my MENSA meetings and engeneering seminars. Oh, did I tell you that I own half of IBM?

I hear you there. Letting more people in if you are not ready for them can be stressful.
If you must, try at least to find the ones you hit it off with. Decide how much commitment you wish to give to new friendships. Maybe keep them only as casual friends for now.
You can always expand on the friendship later on.

I hate going back, i figure if we didn't stay in touch there was probably a good reason. Like reunions after the 10th one, there no good.anything after 20 there sad, and then after 30 quite depressing.

I missed my 20th due to a back injury. I suppose it was an omen. It could be Pandora's Box.
