At one point I read 1 inch = 2.54005cm
Haven't been able to locate the source again, and it seems that 2.54cm has been accepted as the official equivalent.

Surprise to me, I'm glad I looked it up. Yes, apparently it is, according to http://members.shaw.ca/quadibloc/other/cnvint.htm:
"Note that the equivalents in centimeters are exact, as one inch is 2.54 centimeters long. In the U.S., before 1964, it was instead the case that a meter was exactly 39.37 inches long, making the inch slightly larger than 2.54 centimeters; and in the British Commonwealth, the inch was slightly smaller than 2.54 centimeters, being defined on the basis of an independent physical standard."
Though I am still a little leery, you can't trust everythign you find on the web. And I don't see why the country should make a difference. In fact I go back to my original thought, I don't think it is.

Yes. By definition, there are EXACTLY 2.54 cm in 1 in. You can derive the other conversions from this one. Good Luck.
