I, for one, honestly try to help the person asking the question. However, I fear that a lot of the people on here asking and answering questions are only here to entertain themselves with their idea of witty remarks. And there are a handful of people that seem to want to put other people down, so maybe they are trying compensate for something they lack in their own lives like intelligence, friendship, etc.?

well, some people genuinely think they have something to say and want to provide what information they have or know. Others respond just to get two points. Still others say negative things, or some are just presumed to say negative things or are thought to be unhelpful. Others are just being smart mouths, but those are few and far between.
