I am in my last semester in university about to have a business degree and I feel like I have not learned anything. Anyone else feel or ever felt like this. Any words of encouragement?

I felt the same way when I went to Emergency Medical Technician school. I received good grades, but lacked the confidence needed to go out and get a job. I felt like I didn't learn anything.

It was explained to me that I just needed to get out there. I had a natural learning ability and reasoning skills. It was like I didn't really have to work at it because I "knew" it.

Go out and get a job. You will be pleasantly surprised!

CJoshuaV had it right, unless, of course, you are studying to become a doctor or lawyer or nurse. Colleges are trying to turn you into an adult. You have four years of relative freedom while still having grownups keep a firm eye on you. You have a chance to play at independence, but you won't fall too far because of the safety net. All of that, plus professors are constantly drilling you in critical thinking and effective oral and written communication. It doesn't really matter if you can't even remember what classes you took, because you'll always have the important skills you learned in them. For on-the-job type stuff, well, that's what work itself is for. My degree isn't in the field that I'm working right now, and that doesn't matter. I'm learning what I need to know about the field at work, but I'm helped by the fact that my college taught me how to learn and how to think about what I've learned.

A university degree is meant to teach you three things:

- Critical thinking skills
- Communication skills
- Cultural literacy

Do you feel like you've acquired these general skills? If so, you're on the right track. You'll learn the specific tasks of a job once you're hired for it. Good luck!
