Your too big for the Vstar650. It's a great bike, but very heavy and under powered. Good for around town, but the freeway will eat it up. This bike also has tappet style valve adjusters, spoke wheels, and the front exhaust pipe must be removed to access the oil filter. Contrary to whoever said they were "maintenance free" this bike requires constant maintenance. And with valve adjustment intervals every 4000 miles, it gets real expensive. I would look for something a little bigger for your size. Cost of ownership will be greatly reduced if you look for a bike that is liquid cooled, has hydraulic valve lifters, mag wheels with tubeless tires, and shaft or belt drive. About the only thing I like about the Vstar 650's and 1100's is that they make me lots of money! Good Luck!

My opinion is that the VStar 650 is underpowered. They ride and handle fine, though. They require pretty frequent maintenance, as I recall, and that cost might be a factor to consider. A man your size could ride one comfortably as they are plenty roomy.

I prefer liquid cooled machines. Take a look at the Hondas, especially the VT 1100, and the new Vulcan 900.

The Vstar is a respectable bike. They have a great ride and fantastic brakes. I'd go for the bigger 1100 though. You might decide down the road that the 650 just doesn't do it for you. The price difference (last time I checked) wasn't that huge.
Ride safe dude.

I have one and I am about the same size. It has plenty of power. Rides very good, but it "fits" me. I had it on the Interstate at 70 and it didn't buzz me to death. Has real good get up and go.
Its easy to take care of and I know I have plenty of bike and power to keep it for a long time.
I am a new rider and bought the bike in July.

Go to Motorcycle Cruiser's web site. (that's a magazine) They put their past road tests, comparisons, etc. out there. Compare to the Suzuki 800's also. Two of those have fuel injection and shaft drive. Easier oeprations and maintenance.

V-Stars are gay. Get a Shadow instead. Or a Triumph Bonneville T100. Those are cool as hell and will give you enough power without encouraging you to kill yourself. Plus, parts are cheaper.
