In answer to Darkgoth's statement, I think Paul Bunyon was like the typical republican of today who feels that the only use our natural resources serve is to make money off of them. They say, "If all those acres just sit there, they are just taking up space." I've heard this so many times. Paul Bunyon might have liked trees. Yes. he liked them very much. but that isn't enough to make you an environmentalist. An environmentalist not only enjoys deer, trees, etc. but also does what is best for them- not just for him, at the moment. From what I've seen, Republican environmentalist is an oxymoron, a contradiction in terms. The two qualities cannot exist together.
But also thinking this way, leaves wholes in my theory. So, then I wonder if it's possible to consider yourself Republican because of the other issues but stand frim on respecting the environment.
Ha! Paul Bunyon an environmentalist! That's the most rediculous thing I've ever heard!

In answer to Depixelator, I thought this whole time that Teddy roosevelt was a Democrat. I think you're wrong on this.
I like this answer very much. You may just get the 10 points! Yes! many hunters are Republics. I've always wondered how they felt about polution, which seems to be a Democratic stance. But do you have an organization?
Yes. Hunting is good for the environment if it is not done excessively and you respect the does and the young.
I like the Sierra Club. But yes, I do think that PETA is a little extreme, damaging property, etc. and endorcing dog food companies that only sell vegetarian food. What??
Republican outdoorsmen want to see nature preserved. Very good! You might just make a Republican out of me yet!
Also, I leave these comments on here because these people don't have email links on their profiles. I wish they did. I would like to talk to a lot of these people. ;)

!!!. i'm one! lol. I consider myself a Republican since I oppose abortion, stem cell research, etc. But I'm also Democratic enough to disagree with some Republican views. Such as enviromentalism. Bush got rich because of OIL, and I don't see him or any other rich bearucratic politicians on either side that are to thrilled about finding a better energy source. And I agree that things were terrible in Iraq when Saddam was there, but did you know that Iraq had already tried a democratic government three times! It obviously can't work there because of their culture. I say, that since there were no nukes, we should pull out.
As for the enviromental thing, i keep my electric bill below 50 bucks a month, only fill half of my trashcan every week, recycle as much as possible, collect organic waste for compost, don't drive a SUV, and carpool with several neighbors. There are five other people living iwth me by the way, and what I just said counts for my whole family and not just me. So I guess I'm an enviromentalist Republican. Good question. God bless!

I find it hard to believe the two are compatible. Hunting, I don't care what other people say about it, does not truly support the environment. It's just people that are full of bloodlust and that's the only way for them to take it out. Environment only serves for as a hunting ground for them, not something actually valuable. Still, I suppose it's possible if one does not follow the Republican policy on the environment, just on other things.

Yes.... T. Roosevelt was one.
Today, yes there are. Many pro-hunting people are republicans. Yes, hunting is good for the envirionment.
Many hunters and out-doorsmen are Republicans-- and yes, they do want to see nature preserved.
Just because one doesn't spike trees, thus killing loggers, doesn't make them anti-environment. You don't have to belong to Sierra club or Peta or some other wacko groupd to be an environmentalist.

I'm a Republican (moderate conservative). I recycle and don't drive an SUV (or other cars with poor gas mileage or emissions).
In general, I doubt the number of Republican and Democratic environmentalists are vastly different.

There are some .but very few..Christine Todd Whitman was the EPA Director she quit over disgust with Bush and his favoring weakening existing laws on the books ...by the way he got those laws watered down and his new appointee gladly allows Company's to pollute away.

Of course there are.
Only if you listen to all of the left wing propaganda will you believe that the democrats are the only party concerned with our children's future.
The republicans simple don't go into fanatical "save the yellow bellied tree warbler" at ANY cost. They are practical and weigh the costs against the benefits to society.

Yes we are called hunters and sportsmen. We give more money per year to support wildlife than all the "Bambi huggers" in 10 years. Oh yeah, and the democratic hunters also. I know a lot of them.
