THE IDEAS COME FROM OUTSIDE STIMULI-LIKE PARENTS ETC...
BUT WE ACQUIRE THEM USUALLY IN OUR SLEEP OR RELAXATION TIMES FROM TRANSFERENCE FROM CONSCIOUS TO SUBCONSCIOUS THOUGHT
WHEN IN THIS MODE WE VET EVERYTHING WE EXPERIENCED TODAY AND DECIDE FROM PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE IF WE WILL ACCEPT THINGS AS TRUE OR FALSE-IF WE ACCEPT IT GOES INTO A BANK AND EVENTUALLY BECOMES A VALUE/MORAL/ETHIC WHEN ENOUGH SIMILAR THOUGHTS ARE IN THE BANK
IF WE REJECT IT IT'S GONE FOR GOOD THAT'S WHERE WE GET OUR SIXTH SENSE FROM

My that is a wonderful question!! In the Musical play South Pacific Nellie asks Emile how it is that children learn to hate. And his answer in song is "you have to be carefully taught".
My wife has taught kindergarten for over 25 years and she says this is absolute correct. Children are taught personal values for better or worse and those personal values are well ingrained at a very early age.
I hope this is what you were wanting.

People say that this is from our parents, and I should think that this is true, although I think that we do add things on ourselves, and our values change as we get older and our lives change. For example, our view of life might change when we have children, and this may have an effect on the personal values we hold

Some unfortunate sods get them from Father 'Feelbad' and others from their big sister, but usually your mom and dad are a huge influence on what you think and why you think it. Your peers at school are a tremendous influence. I got my by watching, The Simpsons, The Daily Show, all the 'Dirty Harry' movies, The Jungle Book and getting ripped off and put down countless times by the wonderfull people of this planet.

The older I get and the more I see in life - it appears to me that not only do we acquire our personal values during our formative years from our primary caregivers, but it seems to have an aspect of being inherent as well.

I doubt about inheriting the personal values. It is acquired during socialization phase, and mostly from our primary care-givers. This is why parents should spend time with their kids so they can pass on their morals to their kids. Otherwise they'll get their morals from the streets, from other kids with busy parents.

Values are acquired through the parents who teach us what is good and bad. Through teachers at school who teach us to differenciate between things and situations. Through friends and other contacts as you grow and face situations. Through reading history of great peopleand their life and deeds and achievments etc

The way we treat people is determined by our internal working model - this develops in the first few years of life, and is largely learnt from the way people treat us. Inherent in this working model will be our values.
